A direct link to the comic in question would have been better... http://xkcd.com/325/

Rated P, not because it consists mostly of an obscure reference (although that doesn't also help), but simply I wasn't the least bit entertained.

Sorry, but it's not really funny. Also, why would Rodney send Dudley a package (or is this just so obscure that I'm wrong about that), and why invent scrolls of undead turning (the wands work just fine)?

Hey! I'm going for the worst comic ever here. I give it an E just because i want my comic that i sent a couple weeks ago to be the worst rated ever.

Btw Dion, can you add worst comics to the stats pageThese strange creatures live mostly on the surface of the
earth, gathering together in societies of various forms, but
occasionally a stray will descend into the depths and commit
mayhem among the dungeon residents who, naturally, often
resent the intrusion of such beasts. They are capable of
using weapons and magic, and it is even rumored that the
Wizard of Yendor is a member of this species.

Well, I was entertained. Partly because I was very entertained by that particular xkcd comic. And jftsang did mention that it was an xkcd reference.

Note that a comic can have a 66% approval rating if two out of every three people upvote it!

Seriously awesome humour, from the xkcd comic, this comic, and Quint's comment.

Also, if that had been Schroedinger's package, the bobcat will have a 50% chance of not being dead.

Monster-in-a-box! (It would work like a bag of"Now, this third handkerchief," Mein Herr proceeded, "has also
four edges, which you can trace continuously round and round:
all you need do is to join its four edges to the four edges of
the opening. The Purse is then complete, and its outer
surface--"
"I see!" Lady Muriel eagerly interrupted. "Its outer surface
will be continuous with its inner surface! But it will take
time. I'll sew it up after tea." She laid aside the bag, and
resumed her cup of tea. "But why do you call it Fortunatus's
Purse, Mein Herr?"
The dear old man beamed upon her, with a jolly smile, looking
more exactly like the Professor than ever. "Don't you see,
my child--I should say Miladi? Whatever is inside that Purse,
is outside it; and whatever is outside it, is inside it. So
you have all the wealth of the world in that leetle Purse!"

The room Dudley's in seems suspiciousluy like the room in Dudley's Dungeon comic number one. Plus there's no such thiong as a scrollAnd I was gazing on the surges prone,
With many a scalding tear and many a groan,
When at my feet emerg'd an old man's hand,
Grasping this scroll, and this same slender wand.
I knelt with pain--reached out my hand--had grasp'd
Those treasures--touch'd the knuckles--they unclasp'd--
I caught a finger: but the downward weight
O'erpowered me--it sank. Then 'gan abate
The storm, and through chill aguish gloom outburst
The comfortable sun. I was athirst
To search the book, and in the warming air
Parted its dripping leaves with eager care.
Strange matters did it treat of, and drew on
My soul page after page, till well-nigh won
Into forgetfulness; when, stupefied,
I read these words, and read again, and tried
My eyes against the heavens, and read again.

of undead turning.

Also, even though I know about xkcd and have read that particular comic, I didn't realise it was a reference until it was pointed out. So it's not a very good reference if it needs to be pointed out to be understood.

Well, that's just my opinion.

This isn't an xkcd reference. It is an xkcd ripoff. There is no joke apart from the one made in the original

Hey badgerigar, this isn't a ripoff. It's not the same joke as before. It's clearly referencing it. He could have had a live bobcat walk out of the box. Or had the WizardEbenezum walked before me along the closest thing we could
find to a path in these overgrown woods. Every few paces he
would pause, so that I, burdened with a pack stuffed with
arcane and heavy paraphernalia, could catch up with his
wizardly strides. He, as usual, carried nothing, preferring,
as he often said, to keep his hands free for quick conjuring
and his mind free for the thoughts of a mage.

say something about how he hopes people wouldn't mind the one time out of 30 that he slacked off. Or the package should have contained a throneMethought I saw the footsteps of a throne
Which mists and vapours from mine eyes did shroud--
Nor view of who might sit thereon allowed;
But all the steps and ground about were strown
With sights the ruefullest that flesh and bone
Ever put on; a miserable crowd,
Sick, hale, old, young, who cried before that cloud,
"Thou art our king,
O Death! to thee we groan."
Those steps I clomb; the mists before me gave
Smooth way; and I beheld the face of one
Sleeping alone within a mossy cave,
With her face up to heaven; that seemed to have
Pleasing remembrance of a thought foregone;
A lovely Beauty in a summer grave!

.

As it stands, it's most definitely a reference, not a ripoff.

And I stand behind my Excellent rating.

A good comic reference can stand on its own without people needing to know the reference. A great comic reference is funny on its own, but even funnier if you know the reference.

A poor comic reference is neither funny nor even recognized as a reference to said comic without mentioning said comic's name.
