I usually use "mediocre" for this situation.

March 2004 was a good month for Dudley's dungeon - I rated most of the strips "Excellent".

Um, I think it's a reference to "Dr Livingstone, I presume?", or something.

I don't get what the big deal is with all the low ratings!

I did a Google search on "Dr. Efembe." The only thing that came up was this comic.
Really, does anyone know what it's about?

I searched Google groups, and found that none other than the illustrious Boudewijn Waijers once played a character named "Efembe" who polypiled a massive collection of items by abusing the Bell of Opening"A bell, book and candle job."
The Bursar sighed. "We tried that, Archchancellor."
The Archchancellor leaned towards him.
"Eh?" he said.
"I _said_, we tried that Archchancellor," said the Bursar loudly,
directing his voice at the old man's ear. "After dinner, you
remember? We used Humptemper's _Names of the Ants_ and rang Old
Tom."*
"Did we, indeed. Worked, did it?"
"_No_, Archchancellor."

* Old Tom was the single cracked bronze bell in the University
bell tower.

. This caused changes in the polymorph code. Looks like Dudley just found his ghostAnd now the souls of the dead who had gone below came swarming
up from Erebus -- fresh brides, unmarried youths, old men
with life's long suffering behind them, tender young girls
still nursing this first anguish in their hearts, and a great
throng of warriors killed in battle, their spear-wounds gaping
yet and all their armour stained with blood. From this
multitude of souls, as they fluttered to and fro by the
trench, there came a moaning that was horrible to hear.
Panic drained the blood from my cheeks.

This accomplishment was immortalized in the Nethack Code -- http://www.ircnet.ee/nethack/NH-code.html -- a clone of the Geek Code) at one point, where you can use "PP" to indicate your polypiling practices. "PP++++" says "My name is Efembe" (or at least, it used to). Although I couldn't find his epic story, apparently he left a save file on his website. You'll need 3.1.3 to play it, though.

Here's the discussion I found, which led me to exercise my great Google-Fu:

One of the all-time great moments in excess. I was really torqued when I found out about the changes in polymorph. When I found out why I was doubly mad I hadn't thought of it first.

Thanks for the laugh, this comic tops 'em all.
