q - a white potionPOTABLE, n. Suitable for drinking. Water is said to be
potable; indeed, some declare it our natural beverage,
although even they find it palatable only when suffering
from the recurrent disorder known as thirst, for which it
is a medicine. Upon nothing has so great and diligent
ingenuity been brought to bear in all ages and in all
countries, except the most uncivilized, as upon the
invention of substitutes for water. To hold that this
general aversion to that liquid has no basis in the
preservative instinct of the race is to be unscientific --
and without science we are as the snakes and toads.

people unhappy -- jealousy, bad temper, pride, disagreeableness,
greediness, selfishness, laziness. Evil spirits, people called
them when the Amulet was made. Don't you think it would be nice
to have it?"
"Very," said the children, quite without enthusiasm.
"And it can give you strength and courage."
"That's better," said Cyril.
"And virtue."
"I suppose it's nice to have that," said Jane, but not with much
interest.
"And it can give you your heart's desire."
"Now you're talking," said Robert.

Dopefish is a long-running gag, originally appearing in id Software's Commander Keen. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopefish

Ok, who said "what the heck?" Your geek credentials are hereby revoked.

Great comic by the way. Was just playing some Keen the other week (thanks to Dosbox).

And yeah, I'm a mediocre geek, but doesn't playing roguelike games guarantee that I'm some sort of Geek?

Funny, I was just playing Secret of the OracleDelphi under towering Parnassus, where Apollo's oracle was,
plays an important part in mythology. Castalia was its
sacred spring; Cephissus its river. It was held to be the
center of the world, so many pilgrims came to it, from
foreign countries as well as Greece. No other shrine rivaled
it. The answers to the questions asked by the anxious
seekers for Truth were delivered by a priestess who went into
a trance before she spoke.

Ahh, yes. I think the Well of Wishes is like the only level in which the dopefish even appears. Though its eating Keen is probably one of the most hilarious things that needs to happen to every gamer at least once.

And I forgot to mention, for those who don't know, this is Commander Keen 4: Goodbye, Galaxy! (I think I got that subtitle right, but I know it's definitely #4).
