Confusing [ armor with ] again?
Well, I sometimes confuse fountains with , and from time to time, when the CAPNTHLA question asks me which character represents a , or which character represents a pool of or lava, I do give the wrong answer. |

It's a parody of the fact that, in nethack as well as other RPG's, creatures will often be hauling loot which serves no purpose to them at all. Such as a with platemail, or a with gems and pieces. |

As far as I know, the "beasts dropping " is meant to be an abstraction of said creatures' corpses being dessicated for sellable spoils and such.

But, unless you are headed into town between each kill, how would you manage to salvage any value from it? You kill the . You take the corpse up to the local witch who buys the bones for 7 . The tail is sold to the whip-maker for 2 . The is sold to the food factory for 11 . You collect 20 for your troubles. You return to where you killed the and continue your .....
That's suspending my disbelieve a little too far, don't you think?

Heh, following the shiny logic, the most lucrative creature in the realm barring dragons or other hoarding critters'd be the magpie. |

Well, if we're going down the line of value from a corpse we would have to assume that you can carry near infinite corpses and trade them in at the same time when you finally do get to town. After all, the amount of that you have doesn't really matter until you're in town anyway. |

I believe Final Fantasy XII implemented some of these ideas. Wherein killing monsters nets you 'loot' (pelts, fangs, and such) which you can then sell upon your next meeting with a merchant. Only humanoids drop money in that game.
