You fall into a pitAmid the thought of the fiery destruction that impended, the
idea of the coolness of the well came over my soul like balm.
I rushed to its deadly brink. I threw my straining vision
below. The glare from the enkindled roof illumined its inmost
recesses. Yet, for a wild moment, did my spirit refuse to
comprehend the meaning of what I saw. At length it forced --
it wrestled its way into my soul -- it burned itself in upon my
shuddering reason. Oh! for a voice to speak! -- oh! horror! --
oh! any horror but this!

It took me a while to get that it's meant to be sidescrolling. Perhaps because most sidescrollers go from left to right, not right to left, so it looked odd.

Dudley of Persia!

Granted, it looks weird this way, but not impossible.

Didn't make me too much trouble to figure out the trick. There are many platformers that go both left to right and right to left. Such as Duke Nukems and Lost Vikings.

This was quite fab, yeah.

Funny, but why is Dudley standing mid-air in the first panel?

I can imagine a roguelike-platformer. Sure, it would suck, but...
