So I take it you are that upset about MUD-hack? Actually I don't know why anyone hasn't done it sooner. Nethack is popular enough to support a fan base. Falcon's Eye and other front ends could even spruce it up. But, the server end of it would be lightStrange creatures formed from energy rather than matter,
lights are given to self-destructive behavior when battling
foes.

enough for anyone to run at home behind their cable modem. How hard is it for these MUD developers (who do amazing things) to port the nethack rules and interface to their MUD engine?

It's not Nethack, (Angband, actually) but it's close.

Once a day.

Anyone know how to edit Nethack? I've got a couple killer ideas.

Edit Nethack? Download the source, edit that, and compile.

The comics generally come once a day on weekdays, weekends are off.. unless anyone wants to play Dudley's Dungeon - The Game.

If you want to edit NetHack, download the source, and also it's helpful to search rec.games.rougelike.nethack for tips, Arcane wrote a helpful guide"Rincewind!"
Twoflower sprang off the bed. The wizard jumped back,
wrenching his features into a smile.
"My dear chap, right on time! We'll just have lunch, and
then I'm sure you've got a wonderful programme lined up for
this afternoon!"
"Er --"
"That's great!"
Rincewind took a deep breath. "Look," he said desperately,
"let's eat somewhere else. There's been a bit of a fight
down below."
"A tavern brawl? Why didn't you wake me up?"
"Well, you see, I - _what_?"
"I thought I made myself clear this morning, Rincewind. I
want to see genuine Morporkian life - the slave market, the
Whore Pits, the Temple of Small Gods, the Beggar's Guild...
and a genuine tavern brawl." A faint note of suspicion
entered Twoflower's voice. "You _do_ have them, don't you?
You know, people swinging on chandeliers, swordfights over
the table, the sort of thing Hrun the Barbarian and the
Weasel are always getting involved in. You know --
_excitement_."

to creating classes and stuff like that, and if you need more info, ask one of the places where nethackers lurk.
